미완료(The imperfect) * ‘반과거’라고도 함
11a 새로운 시제입니다. 따라하십시오. -bam, -bas, -bat, -bamus, -batis, -bant. 이것이 전부입니다. 라틴어는 규칙적인 언어입니다.
이들은 미완료 시제의 어미이고 뜻은 ‘I was doing/used to do X’입니다. 즉 과거의 지속적이거나 반복적인 행위를 나타내는 시제입니다. 예를 들면 amabam, I was loving, I used to love, monebam, I was warning, I used to warn 등입니다.
미완료 시제의 형태는 현재시제의 어간 + 핵심 모음 + 어미입니다. 즉 제1형 활용 동사 amo의 경우 아래와 같이 인칭별로 활용합니다.
1s am-a-ba-m ‘I was loving. used to love’
2s am-a-ba-s ‘you were loving, used to love’
3s am-a-ba-t ‘he/she/it was loving, used to love’
1pl am-a-ba-mus ‘we were loving, used to love’

제5형 활용 동사 cap-ie-bam 등도 마찬가지로 각 인칭별로 어미가 다음과 같이 활용합니다. -bam, -bas, -bat, -bamus, -batis, -bant.
미완료 시제는 현재 시제의 어간 + 미완료 시제의 어미로 구성됨에 유의하십시오. 완료 시제는 완료 시제의 어간 + 완료 시제의 어미로 구성됨은 이미 학습하였습니다.

11b sum ‘I am’ 은 항상 골치가 아픈 동사입니다. 미완료 시제는 다음과 같이 활용합니다.

possum ‘I am able/can’의 미완료시제의 형태는 pot + eram입니다.
pot-eram ‘I was able/could’, pot-eras, pot-erat, pot-eramus, pot-eratis, pot-erant.
eo ‘I go’의 미완료형도 익혀 두십시오. i-bam ‘I was going’, i-bas, i-bat, i-bamus, i-batis, i-bant.
